Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton has thrown the gauntlet down for next season by saying that the Red Devils will finish ahead of Manchester City.

Charlton, who is the all-time top goalscorer at Old Trafford, threw an open challenge to their Manchester rivals next season by saying that the Red Devils will regain their status as the top Mancunian club next season.

"Next year I guarantee that we will be number one in Manchester. We like to be first and we will be first", the 76-year-old was quoted as saying by the BBC.

Charlton feels that this season will turn out be a blip and believes that with the addition of a few players in the summer transfer window, Manchester United will be back at the top of English football in the next campaign.
