Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has revealed that Liverpool “hold the cards” over the Potters' desire to make Oussama Assaidi’s move permanent at the Britannia Stadium.

The winger has been in good form since joining the Potters from Liverpool on a season-long loan deal during the summer transfer window.

Assaidi has scored five goals in 25 appearances in all competitions for Stoke, in addition to providing two assists.

And Hughes, who admitted that Stoke are keen to make the Moroccan international’s deal permanent, further revealed that his employers have already started discussions with Liverpool regarding the matter.

“Liverpool hold the cards”, he said at a pre-match press conference this morning.

“We would like to make a permanent deal happen.

"We are in initial discussions at the moment.”

Assaidi, who has further two years left on his present contract with Liverpool, joined the club from Dutch side Heerenveen in 2012.

However, the 25-year-old has failed to cement his spot at Anfield, having made just 12 appearances for the Reds.
