Arsenal have made a move to bring Carlos Vela back to the Emirates Stadium by activating the Mexican's buy-back clause.

According to Spanish outlet Vozpopuli, the Gunners have offered €4m for Vela and have communicated their desire to sign their former striker to Real Sociedad.

Vela's representative was in Arsenal just days ago for talks with the Gunners, who made clear their desire to bring the player back to England.

Real Sociedad could have sold Vela elsewhere and owed Arsenal a percentage of the sale total, however, their failure to do so has left them vulnerable to losing the striker to the Gunners.

Questions are now being asked of why the Basque club did not move to remove the buy-back clause, with Vela having impressed in La Liga this season.

The 25-year-old has bagged 15 goals in 36 La Liga games for Real Sociedad this term, also striking twice in the Copa del Rey.

His contract with the Basque outfit runs until 2015. Vela turned out for Arsenal between 2005 and 2011, enjoying a number of loan stints away from the club, before joining Real Sociedad on a permanent basis in 2012.

The Mexican's view on returning to Arsenal remains to be seen.
