German manager Joachim Low believes that the year in England has done winger Andre Schurrle a world of good.

The 23-year-old, who joined Chelsea in 2013, contributed with eight goals in 30 league games for the Pensioners this season and also provided his team-mates with two more important assists.

His performance for Chelsea in fact helped to cement his spot in Low's 26-man World Cup squad that will take part in a training camp in South Tyrol.

And now with just a week remaining until the announcement of the 23-man squad, he will be a strong contender, fighting with fellow winger Toni Kroos.

"The year in England has done Schurrle good," the 54-year-old said during a press conference.

"You can see that in his overall body language.

"He's gained more self-confidence and improved. I've been very happy with him so far in training."

Speaking about Schurrle's team-mate Kroos, Low added: "Kroos has also matured and his role this time is not going to be the same as it was at Euro 2012.

"He's going to be a very important player for us."
