Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho may send centre-back Kurt Zouma back to former club Saint-Etienne on loan for the whole of next season.

The Blues secured a deal for Zouma in January, but as part of the agreement allowed him to finish the campaign at Saint-Etienne, who he helped to a finish of fourth in Ligue 1.

Now Zouma is set to report to Chelsea in the summer, but according to France Football, Mourinho may send him back to Les Verts.

The Portuguese is searching for a centre-back to replace David Luiz, who is joining Paris Saint-Germain. And who is signed may have a direct impact on whether Zouma remains at Stamford Bridge.

Being able to call upon Zouma for another season would be a big, big boost for Saint-Etienne, whose supremo Roland Romeyer has admitted they will not spend more than €3m on a single player this summer.

"To stay in the top five, with the same budget, and compete with Lyon, Marseille, Lille and Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne will still be a super-performer", he said.

"But we will not invest more than €3m on a player."
