Former Celtic midfielder Morten Wieghorst has taken over as the new manager of Danish side AGF.

The 43-year-old has penned a three-year contract with the club, who finished second bottom of the Danish Superliga this season and were relegated to the second tier as a result.

Wieghorst, who turned out for Celtic between 1995 and 2002, hung up his boots in 2005 at Brondby.

He quickly moved into coaching, with spells at FC Nordsjaelland, Denmark Under-21s and Swansea City.

"AGF is a great club with great tradition. I am confident we can lead the club back into the Superliga and also establish AGF as a real player at the top of Danish football", Wieghorst said in a statement.

"I therefore had great pleasure in saying yes to the job and I'm looking forward to working with many people in and around the club."

As a midfielder, Wieghorst won 30 caps for Denmark between 1994 and 2004.
