Bordeaux have quickly pulled out of the race for Newcastle United defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa after discovering financial implications of a deal for the 25-year-old.

Yanga-Mbiwa is available to leave St. James' Park for the right price this summer and Lille have already been linked with moving to bring the former Montpellier man back to France.

Bordeaux too had been looking at signing the centre-back, but financial considerations mean their interest has reached a dead end.

Speaking about Yanga-Mbiwa, the club's president Jean-Louis Triaud told Sud Ouest: "He is far too expensive in terms of money."

Yanga-Mbiwa joined Newcastle in January 2013, with his stock sky high after helping Montpellier to win Ligue 1 the previous season.

He played 23 times for the Magpies in the Premier League this term, but saw some of his displays harshly criticised.
