Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has lauded the signing of striker Rickie Lambert from Southampton.

The 32-year-old, who scored in England’s 2-2 draw with Ecuador in a World Cup warm-up match last night in Miami, joined the Reds from the Saints for a fee of £4m plus add-ons on Monday.

And Carragher feels it is a “very good” bit of business from the Merseyside club, given it was a dream move for Lambert, who is a local boy.

"I think it's a very good signing", he told Liverpool’s official site.

"He's a local boy, a Liverpool fan, and it's probably been a dream for him.”

With Liverpool being involved in the Champions League next season, Carragher is certain about Lambert receiving game time and finding the back of the net for the Anfield outfit.

"There'll be lots of games with Liverpool being involved in the Champions League, so he'll play his part and I'm sure he'll get some goals."

Lambert, who is part of England’s World Cup squad, scored 115 goals in 229 appearances in all competitions for Southampton.

The forward has five caps and three goals for England to his name.
