Mario Mandzukic's announcement that he intends to leave Bayern Munich this summer has fired the starting gun on the race for his signature and yet another club have joined the fray.

Arsenal and Chelsea both held talks with the Croatian's agent earlier this year, before his impending exit from Bayern Munich was officially confirmed, while Wolfsburg and Valencia are also firm fans of the 28-year-old.

Now, according to Italian daily Tuttosport, AC Milan are preparing to throw their hat into the ring for Mandzukic.

New Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi would like to call upon the Croatia international for the new season and views him as an ideal acquisition, especially in light of continued talk Mario Balotelli could leave the club.

Mandzukic scored 18 goals in the Bundesliga last season, but it has not been enough to convince Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola of the merits of keeping him.

Indeed, the Bavarians have already snapped up Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund, the Poland star due to arrive on a free transfer this summer.

It remains to be seen where Mandzukic will be plying his trade in 2014/15.
