Gus Poyet admits that Sunderland are trying to buy Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina this summer.

Alonso joined Sunderland on loan from Fiorentina in January this year and made 16 league appearances for the Black Cats.

Poyet was impressed by the young Spaniard’s performance for the club at a very crucial juncture of the season.

The Sunderland manager wants the 23-year-old back on Wearside and admits that the club are doing everything to come to an agreement with La Viola.

"We are doing everything possible to try to buy the Spaniard from Fiorentina”, the 46-year-old told Marca.
