Newly-promoted Ligue 1 side Lens have joined the race for out-of-favour Newcastle United defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

The centre-back has already attracted attention from both Bordeaux and Marseille, given indications that Newcastle will allow him to leave for the right price this summer.

Financial issues are a concern for both clubs, with worries over the salary needed to sign Yanga-Mbiwa.

According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Lens are the latest club to look towards the potential acquisition of the player.

Having won promotion from Ligue 2 last season, Lens are eager to make a splash back in the French top flight and feel Yanga-Mbiwa would be a solid addition.
