Marseille have made a decisive bid to win the race for Mexico defender Hector Moreno, who has been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Marcelo Bielsa's men have sent a proposal of €6m to Espanyol for the 26-year-old – although the Barcelona-based outfit have knocked it back as insufficient, according to Spanish daily AS.

Marseille are expected to return for Moreno, as they attempt to do a deal to take him to the Stade Velodrome.

Espanyol are thought to want a minimum of €10m for the defender, who has a buy-out clause set at the €20m mark.

Moreno has increased his stock through his performances at the World Cup, having featured for Mexico in all three of their group stage games.

And Espanyol are unlikely to be able to keep hold of the player should interested parties push to snap him up.

Moreno turned out 32 times in La Liga with Espanyol last term, even managed to chip in with one goal.
