Nicola Salerno has confirmed that he has joined Massimo Cellino at Leeds United and is eyeing snapping up a number of young Italian gems for the Yorkshire giants.

The sporting director has moved on from his role at Cagliari, the club which Cellino recently sold to former Inter board member Tommaso Giulini, and has thrown himself into life at Elland Road.

Salerno explained his relationship with Cellino has been crucial to him deciding to answer Leeds' call and now he has set his sights on helping his former boss guide the Yorkshire giants back to the Premier League.

"I chose to jump on the wagon with Massimo because there is a relationship of respect and friendship between us", Salerno explained to Itasportpress.

"We plan to consolidate the club and in two, a maximum of three years, take it to the Premier League.

"I'll bring some young Italians to Leeds, but not that many because it is right that it is mainly made up of British", he added, outlining his transfer plans for the summer.

Already Leeds have been linked with a number of Italian players, with Cellino thought to be plotting moves for goalkeeper Marco Silvestri and striker Daniele Cacia.

Also on the agenda is young midfielder Federico Viviani.
