Tottenham Hotspur are casting their eyes towards defender Miguel Lopes, who is unlikely to continue his adventure with French giants Lyon.

The 27-year-old, who operates as a right-back, was loaned to Lyon by Sporting Lisbon last summer, with the French side having the right to make the move a permanent one for a set fee of €10m.

However, according to Portuguese sports daily Record, Lyon are unlikely to activate the clause and Tottenham have emerged as contenders for the player's signature.

Indeed, Spurs have indicated that they are willing to pay €4m to sign Lopes from Sporting Lisbon.

It remains to be seen whether such a sum will prove sufficient for the capital club to allow Lopes to head to White Hart Lane to join up with Mauricio Pochettino.

Lopes could only help Lyon to a finish of fifth in Ligue 1 last term, as Les Gones finished with a haul of 61 points from 38 games, well adrift of a top three Champions League place.

The defender spent time in the youth ranks at Sporting Lisbon's fierce rivals Benfica, making his senior breakthrough with the club's B team.

Sporting Lisbon signed Lopes from FC Porto in 2013.
