Leeds United's new deal-maker Nicola Salerno is interested in Italian centre-back-cum-left-back Andrea Mantovani.

Salerno, who served as Cagliari sporting director under current Leeds owner Massimo Cellino, recently confirmed he has linked up with his old boss at Elland Road and is actively looking into signing a number of Italian players.

Several stars are under consideration as Leeds bid to make good on their owner's promise to lead the club back to the Premier League within two years.

One of those player names in Salerno's notebook is defender Mantovani, according to Tutto Mercato, although Salerno is not yet fully decided on launching a swoop for the experienced stopper.

The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Bologna from Palermo, with the Rossoblu having a permanent purchase option.
