Hamburg have agreed a fee with Hertha Berlin to sign striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga, who has been chased by Newcastle United.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Hamburg and the northern German club were keen to keep hold of him on a permanent basis.

Hertha Berlin had played hardball over selling the striker, who they signed from Bayer Leverkusen in 2010.

However, according to German daily Bild, a breakthrough has been reached, with Hamburg agreeing to pay just over €8m to Hertha Berlin to sign the striker.

Lasogga has been clear that he wants to remain at Hamburg, but the news will still come as a blow to English Premier League side Newcastle.
