Luuk de Jong is closing on a move to PSV Eindhoven after Newcastle United opted not to sign him on a permanent basis.

Newcastle had taken De Jong on loan from German side Borussia Monchengladbach, boasting the option to then transform his stay into a permanent one.

But De Jong failed to score even a single goal at St. James' Park and could not earn a permanent move, sending him heading back to Gladbach.

The Dutchman is out of favour at Borussia Park though, meaning his agent has been working overtime to secure his exit.

And according to Voetbal International, De Jong has found an agreement with PSV Eindhoven, which would see him return to the Eredivisie.

However, PSV Eindhoven still have to reach an agreement with Gladbach over the fee to be paid to sign the forward.

The Bundesliga side paid €15m to sign De Jong, while the Eindhoven-based outfit are willing to pay around the €5m mark for the 23-year-old.
