Rafael van der Vaart has said that it would not be a smart move by Hamburg if they decide to sell him this summer.

The Dutch international had to pull out of Holland’s World Cup squad due to a calf injury and is preparing himself for the new season.

"I feel good," the Dutchman told Bild.

"Of course I'm not a hundred percent, but I no longer suffer from my injury."

Hamburg struggled against relegation last season and needed a relegation playoff against Greuther Furth to retain their top flight status.

However, the 31-year-old is not interested in a move away from the club and believes Hamburg will make a mistake if they decide to sell him.

“Leaving is not an issue as HSV is the most important thing for me.

“I would love to stay and want to have a great next season. If I can remain fit, I will show my qualities. Selling me wouldn’t be a smart move.”

The former Real Madrid man made 32 appearances for HSV last season, scoring eight goals and providing ten assists.
