Liverpool could turn to AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli to replace Luis Suarez, if the Uruguayan is sold to Barcelona this summer.

The Catalan giants are pushing hard to snap up Suarez, with Liverpool's resolve to keep their talisman having been weakened by a four-month FIFA ban slapped on him this summer, after he bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

Should Suarez leave, Liverpool would have to replace a player who scored 31 goals in the Premier League last term.

And that could lead them to Balotelli, according to Italian daily Tuttosport.

The former Manchester City striker has been heavily linked with leaving Milan this summer, with Arsenal placed front and centre in the race for his services, chatter not having gone away despite Arsene Wenger issuing a denial.

"It was perhaps a mistake to take Mario back to Italy", the player's agent Mino Raiola said.

"He has to play where he is loved.

"Milan and some people love him, others do not."

Balotelli has been criticised within Italy for his performances at the World Cup, during which the Azzurri crashed out at the group stage.
