Seamus Coleman deserves his place in Roberto Martinez's first team, Everton right-back Tony Hibbert believes.

Hibbert has managed only 10 competitive appearances for the Toffees since May 2012, having being plagued by multiple injuries.

Coleman, who took up the role in his absence, was instrumental in Everton's success last year having received the Player of the Season award for his contribution.

“Seamus has been unbelievable and deserves his place for the way he is playing”, Hibbert told his club's official site.

The 33-year-old also believes that it is the ruthless nature of team selection that helps to bring out the best out of everyone in the squad.

“It’s one of them where we need players in the squad that will keep fighting for each other and pushing each other for places.

"Every season you are a professional footballer you have got to be looking over your shoulder and seeing who is coming through to fight for your place.

"It’s a natural instinct that comes with being a footballer."
