Liverpool are negotiating a deal with Benfica to sign Serbian winger Lazar Markovic, having slapped a bid of €25m on the table for the 20-year-old.

According to Portuguese daily Record, Benfica are talking to Liverpool about the offer, which would see them receive €12.5m, due to half of Markovic's sporting rights being held by a third party.

Liverpool are moving quickly to secure new players this summer, after agreeing in principal to sell Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

Benfica snapped up Markovic from Partizan Belgrade just last summer, paying €6m of the €12m fee to sign the starlet.

He flourished at the Estadio da Luz last term, playing a key role as Benfica won the Portuguese title, the Portuguese League Cup and reached the final of the Europa League.
