Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that his star striker Robin van Persie is doubtful to feature in the World Cup semi-final match against Argentina tonight.

The Dutch skipper is struggling with an upset stomach and had to train separately from his team-mates yesterday.

And Van Gaal explained that he will today take the decision of whether to play Van Persie against the Argentines at the Arena de Sao Paulo.

The new Manchester United boss went on to add that the 30-year-old, who has scored three goals in the competition, is a vital element to his squad.

"He has a stomach problem, an intestinal problem. I don't know [if he will play]", Van Gaal told FIFA’s official site.

"I will decide [on Wednesday]. Van Persie is our captain so he is very important to us. In principle my captain always plays, but he has to be fit."

Van Persie, who has been substituted three times at this World Cup, played the full 120 minutes against Costa Rica in the previous round and converted a penalty in the Dutch’s 4-3 shoot-out win over the Central American nation.
