Bordeaux have joined Southampton and Palermo in the race for the Schalke left-back Christian Fuchs.

The 28-year-old underwent knee surgery in March and was ruled out for an indefinite period of time, though is on the road to recovery.

His injury has not deterred Bordeaux and they are stepping up their interest in the Austrian international, according to Bild.

Although he still has one year left on his contract, Schalke are keen to sell the full-back.

English club Southampton, who lost Luke Shaw to Manchester United earlier this summer, are keen to bring Fuchs to England.

Italian club Palermo are also monitoring the full-back, but it remains to be seen whether the Austrian can recover quickly enough from his injury to complete a transfer.

He joined Schalke in 2011 and has clocked up 106 appearances for the club, scoring five goals and providing 25 assists.
