Manchester City are waiting for Eliaquim Mangala to make a decision on his future before moving on to other defensive targets.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is a fan of the FC Porto defender and has made him his top defensive target for this summer.

The French defender said earlier last month that he will stay at Porto for next season, but that has not deterred the English champions.

The Citizens are ready to fork out around €40m for Mangala and are waiting for the defender to make a decision on his future before they move on to other defensive targets, according to French sports daily L’Equipe.

The English champions are also tracking Mehdi Benatia this summer, but would like to wait for Mangala before making a move for the Moroccan.

Roma are frustrated by Manchester City’s stalling tactics and have given them a deadline of 21st July before they pull the plug on the deal.

Manchester City find themselves in an unenviable position. They are keen to be patient with Mangala but risk losing out on signing Benatia.
