Benfica have stepped up their efforts to sign Inter Milan target Casemiro from Real Madrid.

The Brazilian midfielder joined Real Madrid on a loan deal from Sao Paulo in January last year and the deal was made permanent last summer for a transfer fee of €6m.

Inter have been tracking the 22-year-old throughout the summer and are keen to bring him to Italy on a loan deal.

The Nerazzurri even made initial contact with the concerned parties in April this year and started laying the groundwork for a transfer.

However, Benfica have barged in to spoil the Italian club’s plans and contacted Los Blancos about a possible move for the Brazilian earlier this week.
