Newly-promoted Premier League club Leicester City have made a firm move in the race to sign Algeria international Islam Slimani.

The 26-year-old, who turned out with Algeria at this summer's World Cup, has attracted the eyes of a number of clubs, with West Ham, Crystal Palace, Stoke City, Trabzonspor, Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke all having been linked with moving for the striker.

Leicester have now played their cards in the race however, making an offer of €8m to Slimani's club side Sporting Lisbon, according to Portuguese daily O Jogo.

The Foxes have fallen short of Sporting Lisbon's valuation however, with the capital club looking to raise €12m from the player's sale.

Sporting Lisbon only snapped up Slimani last summer, signing the striker from CR Belouizdad.
