Manchester United legend and current England assistant coach Gary Neville has insisted the Three Lions cannot play like World Cup winners Germany and instead need to find their own path.

Germany won their fourth World Cup last night when they beat a stubborn Argentina side 1-0 in extra-time at the famous Maracana in Brazil.

England by contrast crashed out at the group stage of the tournament, losing against Italy and Uruguay, and drawing against Costa Rica.

But replicating Germany's way of playing is off the table for England, Neville believes. And the coach is confident the Three Lions can find their own way to move forward.

"People who write – 'England should follow the German route' are oblivious to the obstacle or believe in magic wands!" Neville said via his Twitter account.

"Course it would be great to follow that route but you may as well say 'England needs weather like Spain'.

"We are going to have to find our way of doing it because the system we have doesn't allow us to adopt the German route in its entirety.

"I'm confident the mountain is starting to move. But it's a slow shift and results will take time but I see things happening behind the scenes."
