Lazar Markovic is one step away from becoming a Liverpool player.

The Reds had a bid accepted for the Benfica winger, thought to be around the €25m mark, last week, but there were logistical issues which had delayed his departure for Merseyside.

However, Markovic bid farewell to Benfica at the weekend and now, according to the BBC, is being put through his medical paces at Liverpool's Melwood training ground.

Liverpool are keen to get a deal for the Serbia international over the line, using the funds received from selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona to finance the transfer.

Markovic only joined Benfica last summer, but the Portuguese side have realised a quick profit on the winger.

Benfica held 50% of Markovic's sporting rights and will receive €12.5m for their share, a profit of €6.5m on the amount they paid to sign him from Partizan Belgrade.

Markovic made 49 appearances in all competitions for Benfica last season, scoring seven goals.
