Luiz Felipe Scolari has departed his post as Brazil coach.

The former Portugal boss was widely expected to stand down following a disappointing tournament for the Selecao, during which they could only finish fourth.

Brazil were demolished by Germany in the semi-final, beaten 7-1 by the eventual winners, while they then lost the third-place playoff game 3-0 to the Netherlands.

Scolari has now tendered his resignation, which has been accepted by the Brazilian Football Confederation.

The CBF said in a statement: "Luiz Felipe Scolari and his entire coaching staff deserve our respect and gratitude."
