Leeds United have lodged a tentative enquiry about Catania defender Giuseppe Bellusci, the Italian club's managing director has revealed.

News of Leeds' interest in the player first emerged at the beginning of this month, but now Catania have provided concrete information that the Yorkshire side have probed them about signing the 24-year-old.

Speaking to the press today to provide an update on Catania's course over the summer, managing director Pablo Cosentino said: "[Paul] Katsetis we sold, while there has been no offer for Bellusci, except for a tentative enquiry from Leeds."

Leeds have been raiding the Italian market this summer, securing goalkeeper Marco Silvestri, midfielder Tommaso Bianchi and striker Souleymane Doukara.

The Yorkshire giants had also closed on a deal for Sassuolo defender Jonathan Rossini, but surprisingly pulled out over the weekend.

Nevertheless, Leeds' transfer spree looks set to continue, although it is not clear whether they will firm up their interest in Bellusci.

The defender has also been linked with both Cagliari and Genoa, two clubs who could offer continued Serie A football following Catania's relegation.
