Premier League outfit Chelsea have confirmed that they have completed the transfer of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid.

The Spaniard has signed a five-year contract with Jose Mourinho's side that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until June 2019.

Costa had been one of the most consistent performers in La Liga last term, helping the Atleti clinch the league title.

He in fact scored a total of 36 goals in 52 appearances for Diego Simeone's team last season, proving to be pivotal to their success.

"Everybody knows it is a big club in a very competitive league, and I am very excited to get started in England with a fantastic coach and team-mates.

"Having played against Chelsea last season I know the high quality of the squad I am joining.

"I would like to thank everybody at Atletico who made me into the player I am, it was an incredible time for me, but now I am starting a new adventure and I hope to win many trophies with Chelsea."

Costa will be part of the Pensioners' pre-season European training camp scheduled to start next week.
