Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of centre-back Matthias Ginter from fellow Bundesliga club Freiburg.

The Ruhr giants have been chasing Ginter throughout the summer, but Freiburg were hoping to keep hold of the 20-year-old for one further season.

However, Freiburg have lost the battle and sold Ginter to Dortmund, with the player penning a five-year contract with Jurgen Klopp's men, running until 2019.

Ginter had been linked with a number of clubs over the last year, including English giants Manchester United. But it is Dortmund who have won the race for the highly-rated defender.

Ginter was in action during this summer's World Cup as part of Joachim Low's Germany squad, winning the World Cup in Brazil after beating Argentina in the final.
