Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is moving quickly to try to keep hold of Liverpool target Alexandre Lacazette, by offering him a new contract.

The forward has been linked with Liverpool, who are bidding to replace the goals Luis Suarez brought to the team last season, following his departure for Barcelona.

However, Aulas wants to keep hold of the 23-year-old and is hoping that a new contract will persuade him to stay put at the Stade Gerland.

Asked about Lacazette, Aulas told reporters: "We are on track to realise a three-year contract extension.

"We sent Lacazette an offer yesterday."

Lacazette's current deal has just two years left to run and Lyon are keen to end any uncertainty over his future and strengthen their own negotiating position in the event of offers arriving.

The 23-year-old hit the back of the net an impressive 15 times in Ligue 1 for Les Gones last term, also adding goals in cup competitions to finish with a final total of 22 goals to his name.
