Young Manchester United defender Marnick Vermijl could be poised to quit the Red Devils and return to his homeland after being omitted from the club's pre-season tour.

The Belgian is thought to have been deemed surplus to requirements for the upcoming campaign by new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, and is now looking for an option in the Jupiler League.

According to reports from Belgium, both Anderlecht and Genk are attentive to Vermijl's situation and are weighing up bringing him back to his homeland.

The 22-year-old right-back spent last season on loan at Dutch outfit NEC Nijmegen and clocked up 30 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Vermijl was snapped up by Manchester United from Belgian giants Standard Liege in 2010 and drafted into the club's youth ranks.
