Brondby striker Johan Elmander has admitted he would love to see Daniel Agger return to the club – but concedes at present the Liverpool defender is too good to play in the Danish Superliga.

The Danish giants locked horns with Liverpool in a friendly last week, winning 2-1. It was a match agreed to between the clubs when Agger was sold by Brondby to Liverpool in 2006 – and took eight-and-a-half years to arrange.

Elmander played with Agger at Brondby between 2004 and 2006, before departing on his own European adventure, which took in Toulouse, Bolton Wanderers, Galatasaray and Norwich City.

And the 33-year-old would like to see Agger follow his example and return – just not yet.

"He still has many years left at the top level and is one of the best defenders in England", the Swede told Ekstra Bladet.

"It is clear that not only I, but all Brondby would be delighted if Daniel came home. But it's probably too early.

"He still has too high a level, but he must of course do what he feels."

Elmander admits that for himself, returning to Brondby was a simple decision, with him having fallen in love with the club.

"The decision grew on me more and more over the years, that came from the first contract.

"I had a good feeling and my heart beats for Brondby.

"I am a Brondby man, so really it was a simple choice."

Agger has been linked with the Liverpool exit door this summer, with the Reds chasing Southampton defender Dejan Lovren.
