Liverpool are pushing hard to complete the signing of Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren, according to the BBC.

The Croatian international, who featured at the World Cup, has been linked with a move to the Reds all summer.

Liverpool’s £20m bid for Lovren was knocked back by Southampton a fortnight ago, but it is now believed that the Saints may soften their stance and accept the offer.

If indeed the transfer does happen, the defender will be the third player to move from St Mary's Stadium to Anfield this summer, following in the footsteps of Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.

New Southampton boss Ronald Koeman will be unhappy to see another of his star performers leave, with left-back Luke Shaw also quitting the club for Manchester United earlier in the transfer window.

Lovren, 24, who is himself keen on the move and has publicly voiced his desire to move to Anfield, joined Southampton from Lyon only last summer.
