Liverpool are on the verge of signing Queens Park Rangers’ Loic Remy, with the striker flying off to the United States to undergo a medical with the Reds today, according to the BBC.

The Merseyside giants triggered Remy’s £8.5m release clause last week and are set to offer the 27-year-old a five-year-deal at Anfield.

The forward, who represented France in the recently concluded World Cup, spent last season on loan at Newcastle United and scored 14 Premier League goals for the Magpies.

Remy will be Liverpool’s fifth summer signing after Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic.

Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to build a squad capable of challenging on both the European and domestic front, following the departure of star striker Luis Suarez to Barcelona earlier in the month.
