A summer switch for Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo appears to be off the cards after the player revealed he has broken his foot.

Negredo, who joined the Citizens last summer from Sevilla, has been linked with a return to his native Spain with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

He has maintained his wish is to stay in England and his injury now means that is likely to happen, with a recovery period estimated at "a few months".

Writing on social media network Instagram, Negredo explained: "I want to let you know that its going to be hard for the next few months.

"I fractured my 5th metatarsal and will be out a few months.
