Manchester United are closing in on Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels after offering the Ruhr giants €20m for the Germany international.

According to Catalan daily Sport, the deal is all but done between the two clubs, with Dortmund satisfied with the offer presented by the English side.

Dortmund recently secured the signature of 20-year-old Matthias Ginter from fellow Bundesliga outfit Freiburg and it is believed this has convinced Jurgen Klopp's men to sell Hummels.

Klopp has often preferred to trust in youth and Ginter, another player who was linked with Manchester United, is expected to fill in should Hummels be sold to the Red Devils.

New Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is hunting for a new centre-back following the weakening of the club's backline after Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand both left earlier this summer.

Hummels, who recently helped Germany win the World Cup, would fit the bill for the Old Trafford outfit.

Whether they can indeed push a deal over the line for the former Bayern Munich man will become clear only in the coming days though.
