The race for Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri is heating up, with Monaco angling to join the bidding as they prepare to say farewell to James Rodriguez.

Monaco are close to selling Rodriguez to Real Madrid for €80m, a sum which represents a quick profit on the €45m paid to sign the Colombia international from FC Porto last summer.

And Shaqiri, who has been linked with the Bayern Munich exit door in recent months, is now very much in the Ligue 1 club's sights, according to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo.

Monaco are just the latest of a number of clubs to be keen on the Switzerland international however.

Shaqiri has been linked with English Premier League side Liverpool, Italian champions Juventus, fellow Serie A side Roma and La Liga outfit Valencia.

Bayern Munich recently declared they are not thinking of selling the 22-year-old, but their words have not put off clubs interested in the winger.

Shaqiri's suitors have been boosted by the knowledge that the former FC Basel man is unhappy at having been overlooked for key games by Bayern Munich last season.
