Chievo Verona have admitted that they are interested in Napoli defender Alessandro Gamberini, a player they are battling Leeds United to sign.
The 32-year-old is wanted by both Chievo and Leeds and is expected to soon make a decision about where he would like to play his football next season.
Chievo are hoping the lure of staying in Serie A, a league in which he has already made over 300 appearances, tilts Gamberini towards the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.
"There was just a chat, nothing special", Chievo's sporting director Luca Nember told Tutto Mercato, playing his cards close to his chest.
"About Gamberini, I can confirm that he has the profile that we like", the deal-maker added.

"For the rest, we are looking for a midfielder and a winger."
Gamberini is currently under contract to Napoli, but turned out for Genoa on loan last season, managing ten appearances in Serie A.
The centre-back has won eight caps for Italy, the last coming in a friendly in 2011 against Ireland.
