Mats Hummels' father has quickly followed Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp in stamping upon speculation his son could join Manchester United.

It had been claimed that the Red Devils were closing on a €20m swoop for the Germany international, who won the World Cup this summer, as they continue their hunt for defensive reinforcements.

However, there is little chance of Louis van Gaal's men snapping up the former Bayern Munich man, with his father Hermann, who also acts as his agent, rubbishing exit talk.

"The transfer rumours around Mats are absolute nonsense", he told German daily Bild.

"There is nothing to it", Hermann added.

Dortmund coach Klopp also squashed talk Hummels is heading to Manchester United too earlier today.

The German tactician said: "What was today's rumour? Mats to Man United?

"For how much? 20 million? For an amount like that, you can forget about it anyway."

Dortmund snapped up Hummels from Bayern Munich, initially on loan, in 2008.

The 25-year-old has picked up two Bundesliga titles and one German Cup with the Ruhr giants.
