Loic Remy has become a Liverpool player after signing a five-year contract with the Merseyside club, according to French sports daily L'Equipe.

The French striker had jetted off to join Liverpool on their pre-season tour of the United States and earlier today passed a medical in Boston.

Remy has quickly penned a five-year contract, as expected, with last season's Premier League runners-up.

And the former Marseille marksman, who travelled to this summer's World Cup as part of Didier Deschamps' France squad, has cost Liverpool a total fee of €13.3m (£10.5m).

The striker spent last season on loan at Newcastle United from QPR, scoring 14 goals in the Premier League in 26 appearances.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was keen to bring the former Marseille man to Anfield, as he seeks to replace the goals lost by selling Luis Suarez to Barcelona this summer; the Uruguayan struck 31 times in England's top flight in 2013/14.

Remy first landed in English football in January 2013, joining QPR, but failing to help the club avoid relegation from the Premier League.
