Angel di Maria prefers a move to Paris Saint-Germain over Manchester United, but the Ligue 1 champions are having trouble fitting a transfer for the Argentine into UEFA's financial fair play rules, according to French radio station RMC.

Di Maria's position at Real Madrid has been thrown into doubt following the Spanish club's €80m signing of James Rodriguez from Monaco.

The winger has a staunch defender in coach Carlo Ancelotti, but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is ready to sell Di Maria, along with Sami Khedira, for the right price.

Both PSG and Manchester United are keen on the former Benfica man, but with Real Madrid demanding as much as €60m for Di Maria, doing a deal is a complex operation.

PSG feel they have Di Maria's favour but, stung by UEFA's financial fair play rules which have already seen them pay a €60m fine and forced to limit their squad size to 21 for the Champions League, signing the player is not simple.

UEFA could return up to €40m if PSG comply with the rules, with the French side now charged with not increasing their wage bill or recording a loss of more than €30m next year.

PSG are working to find a way to still afford Di Maria though, likely by taking the Argentine on loan for the season, but with a mandatory purchase option built in, something which would still see Real Madrid receive the agreed fee for the winger, but only at the end of the season.

The French champions are using a similar method to sign Serge Aurier from Toulouse, with the right-back arriving on loan, with a purchase of €9.5m built in.

Di Maria will earn a yearly salary of €8m at the Parc des Princes if the move goes through.

The winger is keen for his situation to be quickly resolved however, leaving an opening for Manchester United if PSG cannot do the deal or Real Madrid will not agree to wait for the fee.
