Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he had been tracking Adam Lallana’s progress for a long time before signing him up this summer.

The England international is one of the Reds’ four summer signings thus far, having joined from their Premier League rivals Southampton on a five-year deal on 1st July.

Lallana joined the Saints’ youth set-up from Bournemouth in 2000 and made his first team debut for the club six years later.

The 26-year-old, who even captained Southampton, amassed 260 appearances for the St Mary's Stadium outfit, scoring 59 times.

And Rodgers lauded the talent and character of Lallana, whom he feels is hungry and ready to fight for Liverpool.

"Adam Lallana, as you'd expect, is a wonderful talent and we've seen that over the last couple of years in the Premier League", the manager told his club’s official site.

"I've watched him since he was a young player and I've seen his progression. In this very short period of time of working with him, I've realised what a good man he is.

"We do our homework on the players, on their character, before they come in. He's a great human being, he's here because he's hungry and wants to fight for Liverpool.

"He's left a great club in Southampton where he had the honour of captaining them, but now he's come to one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"From what I've seen from him so far in training, he's been absolutely fantastic; hungry, technically good and tactically very, very good."

Lallana, who represented England at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, has thus far earned nine senior caps for his nation.
