Tottenham Hotspur legend Ledley King is to take up a coaching role at White Hart Lane.

The former centre-back has been working as an ambassador at the club since hanging up his boots at the conclusion of the 2011/12 campaign.

Now King is to combine his ambassadorial role with a coaching job, having agreed to take a part-time post with the club's Under-18 side, much to Spurs' delight.

Tottenham academy manager John McDermott explained to the club's site how King will fit into the set-up at White Hart Lane.

"Ledley has come through the coaching training programme undertaken by a number of senior players in recent seasons, including Scott Parker, Brad Friedel and Michael Dawson", McDermott said.

"We are now looking for Ledley to spend 2-3 days a week assisting our Under-18 group with their on and off pitch development.

"Using senior players as role models within our academy is a scheme we are keen to nurture and develop further."

King is currently in North America on the club's tour of the United States and Canada.

The 33-year-old made 321 appearances for Tottenham as a player, but saw his time at the club consistently disrupted by injury.
