Queens Park Rangers have completed the signing of Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker for an undisclosed fee.

The England international put pen to paper on a four-year deal with the R's which will keep him at Loftus Road until 2018.

Caulker, a product of Tottenham Hotspur’s youth set-up, spent loan spells at Yeovil Town, Bristol City and Swansea City during his time at White Hart Lane.

The 22-year-old then joined Cardiff on a permanent deal last summer, but failed to help the Welsh club avoid relegation.

And the centre-back, who revealed QPR boss Harry Redknapp was a big factor for him in joining the Hoops, is also looking forward to playing alongside Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, another of the club’s summer signings.

“Harry was a big factor for me, having worked with him at Tottenham. He was very keen for me to join and that was a big plus, knowing the manager wants you”, he explained to QPR’s official site.

“Being able to play with Rio was also a big draw. He has been a role model of mine for many years, along with Ledley King. To have the opportunity to play alongside him was something I felt I couldn’t miss out on.”

Caulker then went on to insist that QPR’s main aim in the upcoming season is to keep their Premier League status intact, having just been promoted back to the country’s top division.

“Our first aim this season has to be to get to 40 points, to make sure we stay up. That’s our first goal.”
