Barcelona have made a big money bid to Paris Saint-German for the signature of Brazilian defender Marquinhos.

The 20-year-old joined PSG from Roma last summer on a five-year contract and has made 32 appearances for the club.

Barcelona signed left-back Jeremy Mathieu from Valencia yesterday, but are looking to add one more defender this summer, preferably a centre-back.

The Catalan giants have been tracking the Brazilian defender throughout the summer and are laying down the groundwork to sign him.

Now, in a bid to capture the player, they have made an offer of €40m to PSG for the services of Marquinhos, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.

However, Barcelona may face difficulty landing their man, with the former Roma defender saying last month that he is likely to stay at PSG beyond this summer.

"I have a contract with PSG and my future will be decided by the club but lately everything seems to suggest that I will stay here”, the 20-year-old said.

PSG signed David Luiz from Chelsea earlier this summer in a big-money move and it remains to be seen whether they are willing to sell Marquinhos to balance the books.
