Goalkeeper Brad Jones has refused to read too much into Liverpool’s pre-season defeat to Roma and feels gaining match sharpness is more important than the result.

Defender Daniel Agger’s late own goal was the difference between Liverpool and Roma yesterday at Fenway Park, Boston, as the two American-owned sides locked horns.

"It's always disappointing if you work so hard, come to the end of the game and concede a sloppy goal”, Jones told the club’s official site.

However, the Liverpool goalkeeper has refused to read too much into the result and said gaining match fitness before the start of the new campaign is the main focus in pre-season for the Reds.

"But, it's pre-season, it's more about the boys putting the work in and obviously getting their touch back.

“Definitely tonight they got the mileage in the legs and that's the main thing for the first game of the season."

Liverpool will hope to get a better result when they next take on Olympiacos in a pre-season friendly on Sunday at the Soldier Park, Chicago in the International Champions Cup tournament.
