Frank Lampard has officially joined MLS outfit New York City FC from Chelsea on a free transfer.

Lampard’s contract with Chelsea expired earlier this summer and New York have snapped up the England international.




Upon joining Chelsea from West Ham in 2001, the midfielder made 626 appearances for the Blues and is the club’s all-time top goalscorer with 208 goals.

The 36-year-old has expressed his delight at starting a new journey in his career and lauded the American fans’ passion for the game during the World Cup.
 


“I am really excited about joining New York City FC and helping to play a real part in building something special in one of the sporting capitals of the world”, Lampard said in a statement issued in the club’s official site,

“The passion of the nation’s fans at the World Cup was second to none and I am looking forward to meeting New Yorkers and tapping into their love of the game.

“It is a privilege to be able to help make history here in New York City – I just can’t wait to get started and be part of it.”

The England international won three league titles, four FA Cups and a Champions League, amid numerous other honours in his time at Chelsea. He has yet to make a decision on his international future.
